Dear fellow felines, flowers, and humans,
Yeah I know I'm supposed to be retired...
But right now I am still managing our precious projects...
So today I make this forum thread so y'all can mull it over
I would prefer feedback as to what you think about working on the following project :)
I am going to post the following (partially redacted) copy of what One Snowshoe sent:
I'm writing today to inquire about Forgotten Scans' potential interest in collaboration on a shounen romance comedy project, Renchi na Himoto ( click here to see MU page ). Forgotten Scans is the first group that I have approached regarding this opportunity.
The genre generally a favorite of mine, but I wound up purchasing both volumes as I'm quite smitten with the mangaka(s), Teika Kobato, itself a collaboration between Meiji Teika and Kobato Zei.
But even given my esteem of Teika Kobato, I wasn't expecting much... until I actually sat down and read the thing. Renchi Himoto is an absurd and condescending send up on shounen rom coms. It boasts the following premise: Beautiful, rich girl afflicted with a curse that she has to find her fiancee early in life is being felt up on a crowded train mistakenly apprehends an intelligent, athletic, rich, spoiled guy with an attitude problem (THE guy at school), declares him the molester... and it goes on from there. All of the characters are too smart for the premise. They solve it quickly. All of the characters are too emotionally complicated for the premise. Their problems are larger, deeper. And thus things progress.
Meanwhile, Teika Kobato avoids fan service smartly and teasingly. Girls sit down such that their underwear would normally be exposed in this genre... but hold their skirts to their bodies like they would in real life. Skirts blow in the wind... but the angles aren't quite right. Bloody noses don't exist unless an elbow is involved. (But characters will still play like the elbow wasn't there.)
The series is currently in serialization. Two volumes have been released so far, with the second just released late last month. I have the first volume completely scanned with the second en route.
One Snowshoe would handle capital (money), scanning, translation, and proofing.
This proposal assumes Forgotten Scans would handle cleaning and typesetting, though One Snowshoe may be available to handle portions of that as well.
Renchi na Himoto contains an occasional spread but very few of the translucent bubbles or freely floating text that call for redraws. Chapter 1, for instance, contains no such text.
Chapter 01 is translated and currently sits at the desk of my proofreader. This and the full scan for chapter 01 can also be provided for your consideration on request.
My best wishes and my thanks for your consideration!
Let me know what y'all think, Radioactive kitteh - out
